Maxwell‡ Indiana University loquacious 31, 2007 ABSTRACT We survey the growing theoretical literature on the motives for and welfare effects of collective greening. We show how both grocery store and political forces are making environmental CSR profitable, and we also controvert morally-motivated or altruistic CSR. Welfare effects of CSR are sagacious and situation-contingent, and on that point is no guarantee that CSR enhances social welfare.
